ROWE LEAVES LIONS

LEICESTER are in the market for a new rider with the news that Anders Rowe has stood down from his place in the team.

Rowe’s final appearance for the Watling JCB Lions came in Wednesday’s 52-38 win at Birmingham, where he scored nine points, and he has now left the club with immediate effect.

The 20-year-old former National League Riders’ Champion has endured a stop-start campaign punctuated by illness, and whilst the Lions as a team have racked up several big scores at home, Rowe’s better performances have come away from the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.

Co-promoter Stewart Dickson said: “I think the biggest problem for Anders is that he hasn’t mastered the Leicester track, and there’s no doubt that’s had an adverse effect on his confidence.

“I do believe he’s a better rider than his overall results and current average suggest, which is why I signed him in the first place!

“This hasn’t come totally out of the blue, we’ve known for a while that he wasn’t happy, and we’ve been looking for a replacement for the last three or four weeks.

“We do appreciate Anders carrying on whilst we tried to get someone in, and that search continues.

“Both rider and club have parted company on good terms, and we wish Anders well for the future.”

Lions will look to bring in a new signing as soon as possible, but in the meantime they have applied for a facility to cover for Rowe starting with weekend’s Championship matches against Berwick.
